The CEO of MTN’s South African operations, Zunaid Bulbulia, has been appointed as group chief operating executive (GCOE) with immediate effect.
Ahmad Farroukh, the current GCOE, will in turn replace Bulbulia as MTN South Africa’s CEO.
Commenting on the executive changes, group CEO Sifiso Dabengwa said: “In order to respond adequately to challenges and opportunities in our markets, we continue to take appropriate steps to enhance our competitive position, and to ensure the long-term sustainability of our business. To this end, the latest changes are in line with MTN’s strategy to regularly rotate key talent within the business.”
Prior to becoming CEO of MTN South Africa, Bulbulia was the unit’s CFO. Farroukh was a former head of MTN Nigeria and MTN Ghana.
Johannesburg-based MTN, which is rumoured to be attempting to re-enter the Indian market, is currently present in 21 countries across Africa and the Middle East.
