In March, the government agreed to renew MTN’s local operating licence and award it a 3G licence worth US$125m, with Orange agreeing a similar deal.
Number three operator Nexttel, a subsidiary of Vietnam’s Viettel, launched services last year, in an agreement that included a 3G licence.
Cameroon had mobile penetration of 73% as of the end of 2014, according to analysts at Budde.
