The Mozambique government has appealed to the country’s two mobile operators, mCel and Vodacom, to share their mobile infrastructure, Telecompaper reports.
The minister of transport and communications Paulo Zucula reportedly told local press that infrastructure sharing would rationalise the use of resources, protect the landscape, favour greater coverage of remote areas and reduce its cost. He added that it would make it easier for new operators to enter the market.
Mozambique is currently holding a tender to sell a third mobile licence, which is expected to be awarded in November.
The authorities were not immediately available for comment.
