Motorola is considering spinning off its mobile phone business early next year, co-CEO Sanjay Jha told Bloomberg at a conference in San Francisco
The company first announced plans for a corporate split in 2008 under pressure from activist investor Carl Icahn, who argued that such a move would help Motorola’s stock price. Icahn has boosted his stake as the spinoff approached, and on 31 August he controlled about 11% of the company.
