Motorola has acquired Munich-based Aloqa, which makes software that allows users to find relevant web content using the users’ location and social context.
This acquisition will add to Motorola’s Motoblur platform, which allows users to access Facebook, MySpace and Twitter updates along with emails, news and favourite apps and widgets, the company said in a statement.
Aloqa designs software that utilises the user’s context, such as location, identity and social relationships, to inform them of places, events, bargains and other opportunities.
This move show the increasing importance that Motorola is placing on its smartphone business and the design of the software to go with the hardware of the future.
The terms of the transaction and advisors were not disclosed.
Motorola and Aloqa both declined the opportunity to comment.
