Motorola is suing rival telecom equipment manufacturer Huawei for conspiring with some of its former employees to steal trade secrets.
According to the filings of the lawsuit, Huawei had begun receiving confidential information in 2001.
Huawei said the complaint was unfounded. The suit comes as security concerns undermine Huawei and ZTE, China’s two biggest network-gear makers, over their ability to expand in some markets. India blocked domestic phone companies from buying equipment made by Chinese vendors, people familiar with the matter said. US government concerns over national security also led Huawei to abandon a joint bid to buy 3Com in 2008
Motorola has form in this type of litigation and pursued five former employees in 2008 for allegedly taking trade secrets with them when they joined Lemko, which has a resale agreement with Huawei. Now the US manufacturer is chasing the corporation itself. Motorola was unavailable for comment.
