Morocco’s telecoms regulator the ANRT has delayed the deadline for bids for 4G spectrum licences by six weeks after applicants requested more time to finalise their offers.
The process kicked off on 17 November and bids were due on 29 January. The regulator has now given interested parties until 12 March to submit their offers.
Etisalat’s Maroc Telecom dominates the country’s mobile market, followed by Orange’s Meditel and Inwi, which Zain holds a stake in.
Yesterday, Maroc Telecom closed the acquisition of sub-Saharan African group Atlantique Telecom from its majority shareholder Etisalat.
Marco Telecom’s chairman, Abdeslam Ahizoune, said the deal was an “important milestone” in the group’s development and “consolidated its strategic position as a major telecom player in Africa, with a presence in 10 countries with high growth potential”.
