Russian mobile operator MegaFon has won an auction to acquire Ural-based cable operator Yugratel, TelecomFinance has confirmed.
The deal value is reportedly Rbs2.42bn (US$77m). Yugratel is currently 72.13%-owned by the regional government while the government of the regional city of Surgut controls the remaining 27.87%.
Yugratel was put up for auction in late November with MTS, Rostelecom and VimpelCom also interested in Yugratel, it was reported at the time.
Over the last few years, MegaFon has been consolidating the Russian telecom market, with the acquisition of Nokhodka Telecom, which provides telecoms services in Vladivostok and Nakhodka, and before that of long-distance services provider Synterra.
Meanwhile, its broadband operator NetByNet is considering buying three local operators: Delta Telecom, Digital Technologies Centre and Ivtelecom. In early December, it also bought Luchshe.net, another Russian broadband provider.
