Russian mobile operator MegaFon has bought Saint Petersburg-based alternative fixed-line operator Metrocom via an auction for Rbs2bn, according to media reports.
The City Government of Saint-Petersburg sold 55% of Metrocom, while MST, a private company owned by Sergei Matviyenko, the son of St. Petersburg governor Valentina Matviyenko, sold the rest.
MegaFon said it would finance the acquisition through its own funds.
Metrocom provides services mainly to government and municipalities. It owns a 1,500 kilometre fibre optic network.
