Fixed-line operator Marcatel is reportedly planning to launch MVNO services later this year.
The Mexican operator’s president Gustavo de la Garza told BNamericas that the operator is eyeing an MVNO launch in H2 2010, and that as an MVNO, it could start the service in the near future, as the network is already in place.
The operator currently provides domestic and international fixed line services as well as internet and prepaid card services, and covers the areas of Mexico City, Leon, Guadalajara, Monterrey, Reynosa as well as the US-Mexican border area.
Garza stated that the operator is most likely to join up with an operator such as Movistar or the Televisa-Nextel consortium, which is currently bidding in the ongoing Mexican 3G licence auction.
