Qatari incumbent QTel has announced a series of senior management changes, following a board meeting last week.
Chairman H.E. Sheikh Abdullah Bin Mohammed Bin Saud Al Thani, said the appointments would “enhance the foundations for growth” internationally and domestically.
QTel CEO Dr. Nasser Marafih will become CEO of the Qtel Group, with responsibility for driving efficiencies and growth across all the Group companies.
Taking on the new role of QTel’s domestic CEO will be Sheikh Saud Bin Nasser Al Thani, who was previously Executive Director of HR and General Services, having joined the company in 1990. Sheikh Saud was responsible for restructuring the company in 1998, carrying out a structure review in 2000 and working with auditors KPMG. He also sits on the board of Omani subsidiary Nawras as well as sitting on management and audit committees within Qtel Qatar.
Dr Nasser, for his part, has been at Qtel since 1992, and became CEO in 2002. He is credited with transforming and restructuring QTel in Qatar and the Middle East.
Splitting the CEO role will enable Nasser to “focus on the key Group responsibilities that will drive long-term growth for the whole business”, Al Thani said.
Waleed Al-Sayed, formerly Executive Director of Customer Services, will become the new COO of Qtel Qatar, having joined the company in 1987 and holding senior roles in sales, marketing and project management.
Former QTel Qatar COO Nick Dent will work with Waleed Al-Sayed on the transfer process, before moving to a new role at the Group level.
