The Chinese special administrative region Macau will award two new licences to operate fixed lines from mid 2012, according to local media reports.
Macau Daily Times wrote, referring to the Telecommunications Regulation Bureau (DSRT), that the launch of an international public tender for three licences is imminent. Citing a spokesperson for the Macau executive council, the publication said that one of the three licences is reserved for the current monopoly operator Companhia de Telecomunicacoes de Macau (CTM). CTM is majority owned by Cable and Wireless. Macaubusiness.com added that CTM’s 20 year monopoly licence expired at the end of 2011.
