The chairman of US telco Level 3, Walter Scott, will retire from the company’s board at the next stockholders’ annual meeting in May 2014.
Scott, who is 82, first joined the board in 1964 and has served as chairman since 1979, when Level 3 was still a unit of Kiewit Corporation.
Another board member, James Ellis, will succeed him. Ellis is also a board member of Lockheed Martin, Dominion and Inmarsat.
Since August, Level 3 has signed five refinancing transactions.
The telco offers network services across 55 countries. It owns fibre networks and undersea cables serving enterprise and government clients. It also provides wholesale services to consumer-focused operators.
