US satellite/terrestrial venture LightSquared is in talks with US media giant Time Warner Cable (TWC) over a potential network agreement, according to media reports.
Citing two people familiar with the process, Reuters reported yesterday that TWC was in talks to use LightSquared’s network to provide internet access to their mobile customers.
LightSquared said that it would not comment on speculation and TWC did not reply to questions.
Speculation is circulating about further LightSquared deals.
A Reuters report yesterday cited LightSquared executives saying that a spectrum deal with AT&T was still possible, even after the announcement of the T-Mobile USA deal.
LightSquared’s CMO Frank Boulben also reportedly said that LightSquared has signed a deal with a maker of tablets and smartphones, which could begin to use LightSquared’s network from Q4 onwards.
LightSquared is currently in the process of rolling out an LTE network in the US. This network will be operated on a solely wholesale basis.
Earlier this week, it announced two separate network deals earlier in the week.
On Tuesday, it announced a roaming agreement with US wireless carrier Leap Wireless.
This was followed on Wednesday by the announcement of an MVNO agreement with the US electronics retailer Best Buy.
It has also recently announced a network partnership deal with the US rural telecoms provider Open Range.
