US satellite/terrestrial venture LightSquared has entered into an agreement with local consumer electronics company netTALK.com.
In a statement today, LightSquared said that netTALK would become a wholesale customer on its 4G LTE network.
NetTALK will also aim to develop its own branded voice and mobile data services for its customers.
The news came despite continuing uncertainty concerning LightSquared’s future.
Its technology has been shown to interfere with GPS frequencies. It is due to submit a new report to the FCC on the GPS interference issue on 1 July.
Concerning the netTALK deal, LightSquared’s chairman and CEO, Sanjiv Ahuja, said: “This agreement reaffirms LightSquared’s commitment to enable new and innovative companies such as netTALK to compete in the US wireless market.”
LightSquared is planning to operate on a wholesale-only basis, but it can not start providing services until it has received permission from the FCC.
That approval will only come once the GPS interference issue has been resolved.
