The Massachusetts-based fibre network provider Lightower Fiber Networks announced yesterday that it will acquire the communication services provider Open Access, based in Farmingdale, NY.
In its statement, Lightower said that the acquisition would allow it to expand its network and customer base in Long Island and the wider New York City region.
Lightower would not reveal the terms of the acquisition. However, it said that the transaction is subject to regulatory approval and is expected to close in Q1 2011.
Lightower is a major network provider in the north-eastern US, with a fibre network of over 5,500 route miles. It has been on an acquisition spree in the second half of 2011.
On 1 December, it announced the completion of its acquisition of Lexent Metro Connect, a provider of dark fibre networks. In September, it acquired Veroxity Technology Partners, a provider of fibre-based data and internet connectivity solutions.
