The CEO of Finnish vendor Nokia has likened his company to a man considering whether to jump into icy waters to avoid being burnt alive, according to reports citing an internal memo.
Stephen Elop, who was appointed CEO on 12 September, is set to unveil a significant turnaround strategy for the company tomorrow.
Reports have speculated that Nokia could sack board members as part of efforts to combat heavy competition from smartphone rivals Apple and Google.
The company could even embrace a third party operating system in addition to its Symbian platform, such as Google’s Android or Microsoft’s Windows 7.
Recent reports have suggested the group is more likely to announce a partnership with Windows 7, because Elop is a former Microsoft executive and there are indications from Google that downplay their interest.
Nokia declined to discuss details of its new strategy before it is announced.
