Swift on the announcement of another partnership with an established financial services operator, NatWest, O2 UK has appointed James Le Brocq to lead its assault on the banking sector.
O2, announced earlier this month that it would be offering two prepaid cash cards to customers, which can be loaded online or in stores. These can be used in outlets where Visa debit cards are accepted.
The service, available to O2’s 23m UK customers from August, can be used in the UK and abroad and over the internet and will allow customers to receive real-time balance updates sent to their mobile phone every time the card is used.
He has been appointed to make the O2 Money division, launched last year, become a core element of the company’s push into becoming a wider service provider and diversify the operator away from just relying on mobile phone revenues.
He said: “This is a very exciting opportunity to take the enormous initial success of O2 Money and build O2’s financial services arm into a solid, innovative business that delivers value to O2 and to its customers.”
Le Brocq will be responsible for the overall strategy and operation of the financial services business at O2
He will report to Tim Sefton, the O2’s UK director of new business development.
