Canada’s Rogers Communications has named Guy Laurence, the current CEO of Vodafone UK, as the successor to its CEO and president Nadir Mohamed.
Quad-play operator Rogers had been looking for a replacement since February when Mohamed revealed he would leave his role at the start of 2014.
Mohamed will retire when Laurence becomes CEO, on 2 December, but the two will work together to ensure a smooth transition.
In a statement Rogers’ chairman Alan Horn said Laurence was the unanimous choice.
“Guy is a strong, proven executive who has consistently delivered strong financial and operating results in highly complex and competitive markets,” he said.
“The breadth and depth of his experience in telecommunications, pay television and media are perfectly suited to Rogers and to the challenges and opportunities we see ahead.”
Laurence joined Vodafone in 2000 and became CEO of Vodafone Netherlands in 2005. Since 2008 he has been CEO of Vodafone UK. He has 30 years of global experience in telecommunications, pay television and media.
Rogers’ subsidiary Rogers Wireless is the largest mobile operator in Canada by subscribers. Toronto-based Rogers also offers cable television, broadband and fixed-line telephony, and owns a number of television and media assets.
