Libyan telecom holding Lap Green Telecom expects to launch in Sierra Leone and Togo in Q2 and mid-2010 respectively, CCO Hans Paulsen said.
Talking with TelecomFinance, Paulsen also said the group is also in talks to acquire a majority stake in Gemtel, an operator which offers services in South Sudan.
Lap Green operates in Rwanda, Niger, the Ivory Coast and Uganda and has licences to launch in Sierra Leone and Togo, Paulsen said.
Launched in 2008, the company plans to create a pan-African telecom operator, targeting fixed-line and mobile operations in countries with a mobile penetration of 30%-35%.
It is among the shortlisted bidders for the privatisations of Sotelgui, Zamtel and Benin Telecom.
The group is backed by the Libyan African Portfolio (LAP), which aims to support the development of African countries.
