Incumbent operator Kyrgyztelecom has appointed Almazbek Apandievich Kadyrkulov as its new board chairman, replacing Askar Sarbozovich Baratbaev.
According to a statement on the Kyrgyz company’s website, Kadyrkulov joins the telco from Kyrgyzstan’s state agency for communications, where he was director. He also previously served as the country’s deputy minister of education and science and held several other governmental functions.
Kyrgyztelecom, which is 78% state-owned, provides fixed-line, mobile, internet and CDMA-450 fixed wireless services.
In early 2010, the government at the time attempted to sell a majority interest in the operator but the process was later aborted in the wake of political uprisings in the country.
