The government of the Kyrgyz Republic has called off the planned auction of its 49% stake in GSM mobile operator Alpha Telecom (Megacom) as there have not been any bids.

The government of the Kyrgyz Republic has called off the planned auction of its 49% stake in GSM mobile operator Alpha Telecom (Megacom) as there have not been any bids.
The Foundation for State Property Management said in a statement on its website it had not received a single application by the deadline of 18 May. The auction was set to take place on 22 May with a starting price of KGS4.9bn (US$103.9m).
Based in Bishkek, Megacom has a nationwide network. According to the foundation’s statement, Megacom has 2.6 million subscribers.
