Fixed-line and mobile operator KT Corp is reportedly planning to roll out an LTE network in Seoul in November and aims to cover the whole of South Korea by the end of 2013.
According to the Korea Herald, the head of KT’s mobile business said that the LTE service would be launched in November when the service would be available for smartphones.
KT’s competitors, SK Telecom and LG Uplus, reportedly have plans to begin offering LTE in July, but the network will initially be limited to data services for tablets and computers, with a smartphone service being enabled later.
The Korea Herald also reports that KT has plans to acquire more network spectrum in the 800MHz or 1.8GHz bands in order to avoid the overload of its network.
