The four bidders in Germany’s mobile spectrum auction offered a total of E116.78m during the three rounds that took place on the opening day of the process.
KPN subsidiary E-plus bid highest, offering around E8.6m each for two lots of 800MHz frequency, surpassing the offer of O2, which was highest in the first round. Fellow German mobile operators T-Mobile and Vodafone are also taking part in the auction, which is expected to go on for at least a week with each operator likely to spend over E1bn.
Germany’s network regulator is auctioning a total of 41 frequency blocks in the 800MHz, 1.8GHz, 2.0GHz and 2.6GHz bands.
The auction will only come to a close when no increased bids are received for any of the frequency blocks.
Following each round of bids, Germany’s regulator will publish the highest bid and the name of the bidder.
