Kazakhstan’s Kcell, a mobile subsidiary of Swedish incumbent TeliaSonera, has promoted its chief technical officer (CTO), Rikard Slunga, to the role of interim CEO.
He replaces Ali Agan, who will leave the company on 30 September to pursue other career opportunities, the company said in a statement.
TelecomFinance understands that Agan will still be working in the telecoms industry but will be based in Istanbul.
The board has already started the process of recruiting a permanent CEO.
Agan took the helm of Kcell in May last year. He was previously CEO of Ucell, also a unit of the Swedish telco and Uzbekistan’s second-largest mobile carrier. Between 2008 and 2012, he led Azercell, TeliaSonera’s operator in Azerbaijan.
Kcell, Kazakhstan’s largest mobile operator, raised US$525m in the listing of 25% of its shares at the end of 2012.
