Kazakhstan’s largest mobile operator Kcell has hired Gary Mitchell Krasny as its acting finance director.
Krasny replaces Baurzhan Ayazbaev, who resigned as CFO earlier this month. Kcell, majority-owned by Sweden’s TeliaSonera, did not provide a reason for his departure.
Krasny has more than 30 years of financial and operational experience in public and private companies in the US, Europe and Russia, Kcell said in a stock exchange filing.
In the telecoms sector, he has previously worked for the Bulgarian Telecommunication Company (Vivacom), Milicom International and MCT Corp in Russia. He has also held positions with Russian television holdings including TV3 Russia and Metromedia International.
This is one of two key management changes for Kcell recently. CEO Ali Agan resigned in late September and chief technical officer Rikard Slunga is acting as interim CEO until the board finds a permanent replacement.
Kcell claimed to have about 14.3 million subscribers at the end of 2013, which the company estimates is equal to a 46.2% market share.
TeliaSonera has a 61.9% stake in Kcell. The operator raised US$525m from the listing of 25% of its shares at the end of 2012.
