Kazakhstani incumbent Kazakhtelecom has acquired a 100% stake in local operator MaxCom.
The 51% government-owned telco announced the news on its website but did not disclose any further terms of the deal.
No more information about the target company was revealed in the statement, but MaxCom’s LinkedIn page describes it as a privately held Kazakhstani operator.
Kazakhtelecom owns a number of subsidiaries, including mobile carriers Altel and Neo-Kazakhstan.
As TelecomFinance previously reported, Kazakhtelecom sold its 49% stake in local telco Kcell to Swedish incumbent TeliaSonera for US$1.519bn in February 2012.
Kcell floated on the London and Kazakhstan stock exchanges last December. Shares were valued at the lowest end of the pricing band, giving the company a market capitalisation of US$2.1bn.
Kazakhtelecom was unavailable for comment.
