Japanese satellite operator Sky Perfect JSAT has contracted SpaceX to launch its JCSAT-14 satellite.
The mission is scheduled for the second half of 2015 and will see JCSAT-14 replace JCSAT-2A at 154E.
JSAT ordered JCSAT-14 from Space Systems Loral back in June 2013. Based on SSL’s 1300 platform, the spacecraft will comprise 26 C-band and 18 Ku-band transponders.
The satellite will cover the Asia Pacific region with the regional Ku-band beams designed to address the aeronautical mobility markets as well as resources exploration industries such as oil and gas.
The launch contract comes shortly after SpaceX successfully completed its second geostationary launch in a row, lofting the Thaicom-6 satellite on 5 January.
The company has a busy 2014 with 14 missions on its manifest this year. Its next GEO launch is Asiasat-6.
