JP Morgan has promoted Kurt Simon, the head of its North American TMT team since 2009, to global chairman of its M&A practice.
Simon’s elevation has prompted changes to the responsibilities of JP Morgan’s other TMT bankers in the US, who will now split his old responsibilities, according to an internal memo seen by TelecomFinance.
Fred Turpin has been promoted to head of media & telecommunications investment banking in the region. He will report to Eric Stein, head of investment banking in North America, and has been charged with helping JP Morgan’s telecoms and media clients capitalise on convergence opportunities.
Jennifer Nason will remain as global chairman of TMT, and take responsibility for a new client strategy across the sectors, reporting to JP Morgan’s global head of investment banking Carlos Hernandez.
Elsewhere, co-head of equity capital markets Michael Millman will also become head of technology investment banking. Meanwhile internet and digital media head Noah Wintroub will become vice chair of investment banking and Mark Fiteny has taken his old position, however Wintroub will continue to focus on internet and digital media.
A JP Morgan spokesperson confirmed the contents of the memo.
JP Morgan recently advised Altice, alongside PJT Partners and BNP Paribas, on its purchase of a 70% stake in Suddenlink – the European telecoms group’s first foray into the US cable sector.
