The Japanese government is considering spinning off Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corp’s (NTT’s) fibre-optic business into a new company, according to reports.
The move is part of NTT’s attempt to enhance fibre-optic broadband penetration in the country, which currently stands at 30%.
The government is seeking a 100% penetration rate by 2015.
