The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is planning to build and launch an S-band satellite for the provision of mobile telecommunications services, according to its former chairman G. Madhavan Nair.
He told Indian reporters that ISRO is working on the spacecraft and that it will be launched in one to two years.
India does not currently operate any satellites of its own that have this capability.
