Argentinean based investment firm IRSA Inversiones Y Representaciones SA has stated that it is amongst the firms bidding for a 50% stake in Telecom Argentina.
Telecom Italia is selling off its 50% indirect stake in the Argentinean operator following pressure from the Argentinean government, as Telecom Italia indirect owner Telefonica also has interests on the Argentine telecoms market. The other 50% stake in Sofra, the holding company which controls Telecom Argentina, is owned by the Werthein Group.
In a statement to the Argentinean stock exchange, IRSA stated that it had bid for the stake, but no further financial details were announced. IRSA did state, though, that the agreement includes an option to acquire the Werthein Group’s stake in Sofra.
