Marsh has won the tender to place insurance for Iridium’s 81 satellite second generation constellation, NEXT. The broker beat off competition from Iridium’s incumbent broker ISB.
In June 2010, Iridium contracted SpaceX to launch NEXT’s 72 in-orbit satellites in a deal worth US$492m, the largest single commercial launch deal ever signed. Under that agreement, SpaceX will provide launch services to Iridium over a two-year period starting in early 2015. Thales Alenia Space has been contracted to build the next generation constellation.
