Moroccan mobile operator Inwi is not interested in acquiring a stake in Mauritanian player Mattel, TelecomFinance has confirmed.
Several media had previously reported that India’s Bharti Airtel, French incumbent Orange, South African company MTN, and Zain’s Inwi were all eyeing Tunisie Telecom’s majority stake in Mattel.
However a source at Inwi told the Moroccan newspaper the company was “not aware” of any such move.
Tunisie Telecom has been seeking to sell its 51% interest in the Mauritanian operator for the last two years in order to focus on its home market, where it faces intense competition. BNP Paribas has been mandated to organise a sale, which could take place this November and fetch about €75m (US$101.6m) excluding debt, according to reports.
Mattel is Mauritiania’s smallest player, behind Mauritel and Chinguitel. The company, as well as Inwi and Zain, did not reply to requests for comment before the press deadline.
