Air Asia is planning to establish a new Thai branch of the Malaysian telco Tune Talk, according to media reports.
The Bangkok Post reported today that Air Asia had signed a 49:51 joint venture deal with a group of Thai investors to create Tune Talk Thailand.
It will reportedly have Bt100m ($3.325m) in registered capital, and will provide 3G wireless broadband services on behalf of the Thai state-owned telco TOT.
The report said that the new service will launch on January 13.
Tune Talk is an MVNO that operates in Malaysia in partnership with Celcom (Malaysia) Berhad. Both Tune Talk and Air Asia are part of the Tune group, which includes an airline, hotels, mobile and financial services.
TelecomFinance could not reach Air Asia, the Tune group or TOT to confirm the report by the press deadline.
