  • Kirk Konert, managing partner at private equity firm AE Industrial Partners;  
  • Christian Ziach, principal at German early-stage investment firm High-Tech Grunderfonds;
  • Thomas Sinn, founder and chief executive at Munich–based space tech startup Dcubed; and 
  • Lukas Nystrom, chief technology officer at Swedish satellite communications tech provider Satcube.

CBN tracks daily investment and M&A activity within the connectivity sector in its Transactions Database. So far this year we have tracked $54.4 billion in large investment and M&A transactions among space, satellite and terrestrial connectivity firms.  

This compares with $29.1 billion tracked in 2023. 

Several large transactions in that closed or were announced in 2024 include: 

  • British aerospace and defense firm BAE Systems’ $5.6 billion acquisition of aerospace and defense firm Ball Aerospace, which closed Feb. 16;

  • Telecommunications company T-Mobile’s $4.9 billion acquisition of fiber optic connectivity provider Metronet and $4.4 billion acquisition of mobile network operator UScellular, announced July 24 and May 28, respectively; 
  • Luxembourg-based satellite operator SES’ (NYSE: SES) planned $3.1 billion acquisition of U.S. satellite operator Intelsat, announced April 30; and 
  • Canadian satellite operator Telesat’s (NASDAQ: TSAT / TSX:TSAT) $1.9 billion investment from the Government of Canada and the Government of Quebec toward its Lightspeed low Earth orbit constellation, announced Sept. 13. 

Investors and industry leaders will reflect on investment and M&A in the space and connectivity sectors in the past year, discuss what factors are driving investment trends and provide a forecast for what to expect in 2025 in a discussion moderated by Madeline Durrett, senior associate editor at CBN.
