The Inter-American Investment Corporation (IIC), an arm of the Inter-American Development Bank, has approved a loan for up to US$5m to the Dominican Republic-operating arm of Wind Telecom, according to an IIC statement.
Wind Telecom is the Dominican Republic’s second largest fixed-line and WiMax with 4 million subscribers.
IIC will sell 50% of its investment to the China-IIC SME Equity Investment Trust Fund.
The loan will allow Wind to address access disparities across the country and encourage innovation and development in the Dominican Republic’s telecommunications sector.
