Intelsat has secured a launch plus one package deal for seven satellites, which will launch between 2011 and 2012. ISB placed the insurance.
Despite the package including the yet to be tested Boeing 702B spacecraft, SatelliteFinance understands that the company got a very competitive rate on the package with the insurance community placing a lot of value on the fact that Intelsat uses a number of its own technicians in the development and launch phases of the satellite.
If there are no launch or satellite failures, the participating insurers would expect to generate income of roughly US$150 to US$200m from the package deal.
*Another company currently out with a package deal is Telesat. The satellite operator, via ISB, is placing launch plus one insurance for Telstar 14R and Nimiq 6. The former is due to launch next summer while the latter will follow suit in mid-2012. ILS is the launch provider for both birds. Telesat is no stranger to package deals having secured a three satellite launch plus one deal for Telstar 11N and Nimiq 4 and 5 last year.
