Willis has won the broker tender to act as Inmarsat’s risk management adviser and placing broker for its new generation of satellites.
The agreement covers the launch and in-orbit operation of Inmarsat’s forthcoming Global Xpress broadband satellite network, in particular the three Inmarsat-5 satellites that are due to be launched by International Launch Services between 2013 – 2014.
In addition, Willis will also place the launch-plus-one insurance for the EADS Astrium-built Alphasat spacecraft, which is due to lofted in 2012, and for the in-orbit renewal of Inmarsat’s current fleet.
The appointment follows the selection of Willis as insurance broker to Inmarsat for all non space policies at the beginning of 2010.
Aon, prior to its acquisition of ISB, had acted as the broker for the launch of Inmarsat’s I-4 satellites and has historically placed the satellite operator’s in-orbit renewal.
