Inmarsat has appointed Tony Bates, previously CFO of troubled Yellow Pages phone directory publisher Hibu, to the same role at the British MSS operator.
Bates will assume the position on 2 June, replacing Rick Medlock who left after nine years with Inmarsat to become CFO of banking software firm Misys.
Hibu, which publishes phone directories in the UK, Spain and US, is undergoing a major restructuring as it faces intense competition from the internet.
Bates has been CFO of the publisher since 2010, playing a key role in its multi-billion pound refinancing, including lowering its cost operating model.
Inmarsat CEO Rupert Pearce said: “Tony brings with him a wealth of operational and financial experience from a diverse range of businesses and industries, which will be of great benefit to Inmarsat as we continue to grow and develop our activities.
“I have no doubt that Tony will make an important contribution to the success of Inmarsat in the coming years and I very much look forward to working with him.”
Before Hibu, Bates was COO of pan-European business telco Colt, and he has also been a finance director at record label EMI.
