SingTel has said that it will aid Bharti Airtel in its quest to acquire Zain’s Africa assets.
Bharti is currently undertaking exclusive talks to acquire the African assets (sans those in Morocco and Sudan) for around US$10.7bn, debt inclusive.
SingTel’s International Chief Executive Lim Chuan Poh is cited as saying that the firm will inevitably be part of the debt funding due to its substantial shareholding in Bharti (32%).
Lim also said that there was no need to inject money directly into Bharti seeing as the deal will not result in a reduction of SingTel’s holding.
