Hungary plans to sell unused frequencies to a new competitor to compete with existing mobile phone operators, Budapest Business Journal reports. An auction could take place later in the year, the article said, referring to the National Development Ministry.
According to the report a decree has been adopted by the government that paves the way for UMTS, LTE and WiMAX services to operate in the 900 MHz and 1800 Mhz frequencies.
Currently subsidiaries of Vodafone, T-Mobile and Telenor are active in Hungary. The article noted that regional player Btel has said previously that it would take part in a frequency auction.
