Hungary’s telecoms regulator has called for applications for a 10-year licence for 450 MHz spectrum.
The licence holder will have to provide digital public services via the spectrum, the National Media and Infocommunications Authority (NMHH) said in a statement. These services will include connecting public administration centres to the national network and helping to run the e-toll system. They could also include contributing to the electronic house arrest system and facilitating communication for auxilliary law enforcement and emergency services.
A consulation is set to take place on 19 November, while publication of the final tender dossier and the invitation for tender are scheduled for 6 December. The provisional application deadline will be no earlier than 15 January 2014 and the winner will be selected within 60 to 150 days of the publication of the tender dossier.
In September, NMHH extended the licences of the nation’s three mobile operators for spectrum in the 900 MHz and 1,800 MHz bands from 2014 and 2016 to April 2022.
At the time, the regulator said the extensions helped clear the way to release spectrum in the 800 MHz band, adding that there were plans to launch a tender for other frequencies this year.
An NMHH spokesperson told TelecomFinance the organisation is planning to announce a tender for the 800 MHz band, adding that the procedure is “under preparation”.
Hungary’s mobile operators are Deutsche Telekom-controlled Magyar Telekom and the local units of the UK’s Vodafone and Norway’s Telenor.
