Hungary plans to kick-start a tender for spectrum in parts of the 800 MHz, 900 MHz, 1,800 MHz and 2,600 MHz bands in April.
The state aims to raise Ft120bn (US$531.8m) from the process, a spokesperson for regulator NMHH said.
The authority expects to publish the final tender dossier at the end of April. The process will be open to existing mobile operators as well as potential new entrants.
Last September, NMHH extended the licences of the nation’s three mobile operators for spectrum in the 900 MHz and 1,800 MHz bands from 2014 and 2016 respectively to April 2022.
Two months later, the regulator published a draft tender for unused spectrum, saying it hoped to boost competition in the telecoms sector and accelerate its development.
Hungary’s mobile operators are Deutsche Telekom-controlled Magyar Telekom and the local units of the UK’s Vodafone and Norway’s Telenor.
