Chinese vendor Huawei Technologies is considering creating a security evaluation centre in India in order to allow the country’s law enforcement agencies to test equipment sold to local companies, according to the Economic Times.
A similar unit has just been set up in the UK, also to allay security fears, explains the newspaper.
Back in September, the Indian government lifted a ban on Chinese equipment manufacturers supplying equipment to Tata and its rival Reliance. The ban reportedly arose due to Indian government concerns that broadband devices could contain spying technologies. Since then, Chinese vendors have signed several contracts with Indian telcos.
