Israeli cable operator HOT Telecom has been granted a broadband licence by the country’s Ministry of Communications (MoC), reports Reuters.
This comes despite opposition from domestic fixed-line player Bezeq, although one condition is that HOT set up a separate ISP companies, as Bezeq has done, according to Ynetnews as cited by Telegeography.
HOT currently offers 720,000 customers broadband services via cable, according to Telegeography figures.
The company has also announced a refi agreement, under which it will be able to draw ILS3.4bn (US$940m) over seven years, primarily from Israeli banks, according to reports. The money will be used to pay off outstanding credit and finance current activities.
