Danish telecoms regulator Telestyrelsen has granted local mobile operator Hi3G Access 900MHz and 1800MHz licences.
Hi3G, a subsidiary of Hong-Kong-based conglomerate Hutchison Whampoa, was the only one of Denmark’s four mobile operators to take part in the auction.
The group will pay DKK8m (E1m) for 2x5MHz in the 900MHz frequency band and DKK4m (E0.5m) for a bandwidth of 2x10MHz in the 1800MHz frequency band.
The other mobile operators in Demark are incumbent TDC, Sweden’s TeliaSonera and Norway’s Telenor. These groups already held licences in the bands being auctioned, and were excluded so that Hi3G could expand its frequency offering.
