Satellite veteran Michael Hewins is no longer with Australian satellite operator NewSat.
Hewins was the company’s chief operating officer and deputy CEO prior to his departure, according to his LinkedIn profile. NewSat would not comment on the reason for Hewins’ exit or whether it is looking to replace him.
Hewins joined NewSat as COO in August 2011 and has played a central role in the Jabiru-1 satellite project, helping to secure its export credit agency backed funding.
He subsequently relinquished that position in June 2013 to take over as chief financial officer following the departure of Adam Shapiro. At the same time he also became company secretary.
Both were on an interim basis with Hewins returning to his former role in September 2014 after Linda Dillon was appointed as NewSat’s new CFO and company secretary.
When Hewins took over as CFO, the satellite operator stated that the appointment of Scott Sprague as chief commercial officer meant that the company did not intend to appoint a replacement COO.
Prior to joining NewSat, Hewins was the chief commercial officer at insurance brokers AON / International Space Brokers. He was with AON since 2007 having previously been chairman and CEO of Earth observation content company AstroVision International.
Hewins has over 30 years of experience in the space industry and has held senior positions with Willis Corroon Inspace, Johnson & Higgins, INTEC and Arianespace.
