Satellite industry veteran David Hershberg has announced his return to the sector with a new US-based satcoms company called STS Global.
Hershberg is best known for being the former CEO of Globecomm Systems, a New York-headquartered satcom services provider he built from the ground up after founding it in 1994.
He retired as CEO last year following the group’s US$340m sale to private equity firm Wasserstein & Co.
Before that he was CEO of Satellite Transmission Systems, a company he founded in 1976 that was sold for US$120m when he left in 1994.
STS Global is currently participating in Stony Brook University’s incubator programme in New York.
Similar to Globecomm, it has its sights set on serving broadcasters, media, governments and other private enterprises internationally. The group said its satellite and telecoms solutions will include network design, integration, management and maintenance.
Hershberg is once again CEO for the new venture, and his team includes a number of former Globecomm employees. These include Donald Woodring, who was responsible for designing satellite communication networks at Globecomm, and Thomas Parish, who focused on developing the group’s digital video and audio broadcast capabilities.
“We are staffed with talented professionals who have worked with me for many years and look forward to working with new talent we are meeting,” Hershberg said.
