Gokul Hemmady has been appointed chief operating officer at wireless operator NII Holdings, which operates under the Nextel brand in Latin America.
Hemmady was previously chief financial officer and executive vice president at the company, and will continue as CFO until a successor has been named.
In his newly created position, Hemmady is responsible for the company’s business operations across its markets.
Hemmady joined the company in 2007 from ADC Telecommunications, a provider of global network infrastructure and products and services, where he was CFO and held financial leadership positions since he joined in 1997.
“In his new position, Gokul will build on his leadership role in our business, including his experience heading our finance team and leading a number of key transformational initiatives, as he drives our efforts to improve our performance by implementing action plans to respond to the intense competitive conditions and other challenges we continue to face today,” said CEO Steve Dussek.
